Antwerp Apartment

by studio okami

Bram Van Cauter, Studio Okami founding partner lives in this apartment with his wife Doris, who is an Art collector, and dog señor Peña.

The attention centre of this duplex is the pastel blue spiral staircase, chosen to stand out against the concrete. It makes the connection between the social part below with the private part above.

The apartment is part of an early 1970s Brutalist building and its structure is entirely made of concrete. Studio Okami's office is also located here.

When Bram decided to renovate this apartment, he took down the walls of 5 rooms and removed all the finishes from the walls and ceilings, keeping only the structure. As you can imagine, the plan design became wider and the quality of the space was redefined.

At the bottom of the duplex is the kitchen and dining room, upstairs is a bedroom, an office, a living room and a technical block that has a bathroom, closet and washing machine area.

The great inspiration for this project is the work of Juliaan Lampens, the master of brutalism.
